THE THROW - CATALOGUE AIRE INCONDICIONAL : PAOLA SINISTERRA
AIRE INCONDICIONAL
The emergence of community-based and migrant e-strategies in Southern Europe

In cold weather situations newspaper works as an effective isolation from the wind and low temperatures, in as much it is often used by homeless people as their only protection. With this concept as a starting point we have developed a throw that does not weight much and folds to the size of a magazine when not in use; however in function of the climatic needs it may be filled with newspaper which is easy to find in most urban locations or some other recycled inorganic materials (rags, old clothes, cardboard..).

The idea of the blanket is also adapted to one of the exhibit´s topics: free content distribution. In contemporary urban environments we are daily confronted by the illegal sale of recorded music CDs, usually held by inmigrants. Lately, abusive laws have been passed to tax the buyers of CDs regardless of the data they record on this support. Thus in using the most important icon of piracy we propose this object as a Do-it-Yourself catalog of the exhibit. The throw, designed with side pockets, not only protects from the cold climate but allows the visitors to make their own selection of text, music, image or open license videos. We highly encourage visitors to bring their own empty CDR.

It is portable, and as it is a big piece of fabric it may be used in its flat format; as a bedspread, blanket, furniture cover or table cloth or in its wrapping up format, with filling or not, where the arms go through the central openings and the throw rests in the upper part of the body.

Instructions:

1. Prepare the newspaper for the filling. It can be cut, ripped or shrunk.
2. Fill up the back pockets, first.
3. Put the arms through the central openings.
4. With the throw on, fill up the other pockets.
5. Wrap up and warm up!
6. Copy and/or print the contents of the exhibit. Store them in the throw´s pockets.
